The final match day of the 2016 CECAFA Women championship comes on Tuesday, 20th September 2016 at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru in Buikwe district.
The Uganda Crested Cranes plays Ethiopia in the third place fixture that opens the day before the final show down between Kenya and Tanzania.
Uganda won two games in the group stages 9-0 against Zanzibar and 1-0 over Burundi having lost the opener 4-0 to the Kenya Harambee Starlets in group A.
Ethiopia overcame Rwanda 3-2, drew goal-less with Tanzania before the latter won the coin toss to top group B.
Majidah Nantanda’s side has the tournament top scorer Hasifa Nassuna (with five goals). Nassuna eyes a goal or two to cement the slot in the match Uganda will miss the services of winger Laki Otandeka who has left for the U.S where she is a student a New Jersey University.
On a sad note however, Uganda is likely to miss three other players for the game.
First choice goalkeeper Ruth Aturo, Winnie Babirye and Joan Nakirya are all injured.
Experienced Fatumah Matovu is ready to take up the mantle once named ahead of Aturo.
Having narrowly lost 3-2 to Kenya, Ethiopia looks at the third place match with Uganda as the consolation.
Intelligent midfielder and team captain, Birtukan Gebrekirstos, lead forward Losa Abera, Hiwot Dengiso, Girma Berktawit, Shetaye Sisaya and goalkeeper Liya Shibru are sure cards for the Ethiopian team coached by Meseret Manni.
This is the first time the tournament returns after 30 years.
