FIFA Women Rankings: Uganda climbs up by five places


The Uganda national women football team, the Crested Cranes is now ranked 124th out of 177 women footballing nations.

This is an improvement from 129th from the last rankings.

The feat is attributed to finishing fourth at the 2016 CECAFA Women Championship that were held at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Out of the 177, only 127 countries have a ranking basing on recent activities.

Uganda now has 836 points at 124th, an improvement from 129th in the last ranking.

At 102nd, Ethiopia is the best ranked country in the entire CECAFA region. They are followed by Tanzania (116th), Rwanda (120th) and Kenya (122nd).

Biggest Mover in the world:

Rwanda was the biggest mover in the last rankings having climbed a massive 15 places as they now have 908 points.

USA, Germany, France, Canada and England complete the top five women football nations in the entire world.

Newly crowned African women champions, Nigeria moved 2 places up and are now ranked 35th to take the number one African country.

Nigeria is followed by Ghana (45th), Cameroon (47th), Equatorial Guinea (50th) and South Africa (51st).

Argentina, Chille, Paraguay, Equador, Uruguay, Angola, DR Congo and Eritrea are some of the countries not ranked because they have not been active for the past 18 months in international competitions.
