FUFA Big League (Wednesday Results):
- Masavu 1-0 Baza Holdings
- Kireka United 3-2 Mbarara City
- Sporting United 2-1 Kyambogo
FUFA Big League side Masavu Football Club are three points away from gaining direct promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
Charles Odeke scored a lone goal as Masavu recorded a routine home victory against a hard fighting Baza Holdings at the Katabi Gomobolola playground in Entebbe.
Odeke was well stationed to drill home after 20 minutes on rebound off a poorly cleared free-kick from another former Vipers’ player Ddumba Sadala.
Visitors had dominated possession and created the best scoring opportunities through Umar Bulega and Samson Abbey Mutyaba before conceding and even after Baza Holdings remained focused and attacked endlessly to get the equalizer that never materialized.
Masavu’s tand in coach, Alex Gitta (also the Technical Director at the club) handled the club alongside assistant coach Andrew Mugagga.
I so happy for my players. We were a complete unit and we look forward our next matches.
Express head coach Mathias Lule also watched the game as his faces Masavu in the Uganda Cup Round of 16 on Saturday at Wankulukuku stadium.
Meanwhile, Second placed Mbarara City suffered a 3-2 loss to Kireka United at the Nelson Mandela National stadium outside playground.
Former Victors, The Saints and Express forward Eric ‘Bucha’ Ssebuguzi grabbed a brace in the match for the home side. Derrick Jurua was also on the mark for Kireka United.
Gilvas Niwagaba restored a goal back for the visitors through a protested penalty and Methodius Bassy got the other consolation goal to create a tense finish to the game.
Masavu now accumulated 46 points to open up a 10 point lead.
Three clubs shall be promoted to the Uganda Premier league.
