Three-time Airtel Masaza Cup winners Mawokota and Gomba recorded convincing victories away from home on Sunday.
Mawokota were 3-0 winners away to Butambala at the Kibibi S.S playground as Gomba whipped Busujju 4-1 at the Kimuli playground.
Ismail Ziwa, Richard Basangwa and Brian Kalumba were on target for Mawokota.
Gomba’s goals were scored by Allan Sserunga (2), Abdallah Sentongo and magicial striker Joseph Jjanjali.
Kabula edged poor travelers Ssese 2-0 at the Bakijulula playground in Lyantonde district while Busiro also won 2-0 away to Buvuma on the Lake Victoria islands.
Meanwhile, Singo overcame a hard fighting Buwekula outfit 1-0 at the Kasenyi playground in Mubende. Jamie Kisitu Nvule, formerly at Buwekula, this time round turned the guns to his former pay masters with the lone strike for Shafiq Bisaso’s led side.
There were two draws on the day. Bugerere shared the spoils with Bulemeezi in a one-all stalemate as Kooki and Buddu failed to find the back of the net at the Bakijulula playground.
Seven matches out of the eight matches in the Airtel Masaza football tournament were played on Sunday at various playgrounds in Buganda Kingdom.
The Buluuli – Kyaggwe game that was due to be played at the UMEA Primary School, Mijeera in Nakasongola was not played because the latter side failed to produce licences prior to kick-off.
The final two group stage matches will be played this weekend.
Telecommunications giants Airtel Uganda Limited is the chief sponsor of the tournament that has been now played for 12 years.
