Uganda Cranes start post-Micho era with a crucial qualifier against Rwanda as they seek to reach a record fourth consecutive CHAN finals.

The highly anticipated clash takes place on Saturday at the new St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende with interim coaches Fred Kajoba and Moses Basena in charge.

Basena admits the game against Rwanda will be tough as they are literally a new technical staff but admits the Cranes are ready.

“Truth be told, they must be motivated given we are almost new technical staff,” he said. “But they will be surprised. They are not new opponents so we know what to expect and have prepared for the game in all aspects,” he added.

His opposite number, Antoine Hey understands how tough the game will be but remains confident of getting a decent result.

“We expect a very difficult and hard game,” he said. “The hardest game that we will play so far and we hope for a good result,” he added.

“We expect a tough match against Uganda but they are not unbeatable. We are confident and we are going there with high hopes.”

The aggregate winner between the two sides qualifies for the finals due in Kenya early next year.
