Former AC Milan right-back Mauro Tassotti believes city rivals Inter Milan will have an advantage over his former side on Sunday.
The two Milan sides face off at the San Siro in the first derby this season, with Inter the better side form wise heading into the game.
While Tassotti who won 17 major titles with Milan, and who is mostly remembered for his integral role alongside Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Christian Panucci, Alessendro Costacurta and Filippo Galli in the Milan backline under Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello predicts a 2-2 draw, he believes the Nerazzuri have an advantage.
“So many things have changed at both clubs, and it takes time to get back to certain levels,” Tassoti told Gazzetta dello Sport.
He continued: “Milan’s new directors are doing a good job, they’ve brought enthusiasm with an exciting transfer campaign and that’s not nothing. They’re a team under construction, a leader is still to be defined but the coach [Vincenzo Montella] has to be given time.
“Inter already had a very strong team last season, and I didn’t understand their swings in performance. Now, [Luciano] Spalletti, who is a very experienced coach has brought more solidity.
“Compared to Milan, Inter have the advantage of havng brought in fewer names, but I think that’s because there was no need for big adjustments. I can’t say how it will end, but this will be a spectacular game with a lot of goals. I’ll say 2-2.
“Of course it won’t be easy for Spalletti and Montella to work, they have a lot of internationals and South Americans will return just before the match.”
AC Milan are sixth in the Serie A table with 12 points, seven adrift of Inter who are joint second with Juventus, and nine below table leaders Napoli.
