Uganda Cranes end World Cup qualification campaign with away draw in Congo

Uganda Cranes ended the 2018 FIFA World Cup RUSSIA qualification campaign with a 1 all draw with Congo at the Stade De L’Unite in Brazzaville on Sunday evening.

 

Congo took the lead through defender Marvin Baudry in the 10th minute.

 

Uganda Cranes quickly replied through Vipers Sports Club forward Milton Karisa in the 11th minute.

 

A number of scoring opportunities that would have put the game to bed were not utilized.

Uganda missed through Geofrey Sserunkuma and Muzamiru Mutyaba as the home side wasted their chances majorily through Thievy Bifouma.

The visitors made a double change after 55 minutes when KCCA midfielder Mutyaba paved way for  Sports Club Villa Jogoo midfielder and Derrick Nsibambi replaced Sserunkuma.

The final change came 5 minutes to full time. KCCA left winger Isaac Muleme was replaced by Vipers midfielder Tom Masiko.

Uganda’s Murushid Jjuuko and Nico Wakiro Wadada were both cautioned by the day’s referee.

Romaric Etou Thomaso was also booked for Congo.

With Egypt already through to the final tournament in Russia next year, the match between Uganda and Congo was just mandatory.

The Cranes finish the campaign with 9 points and Congo with just two points.

The Uganda delegation will return home on Monday, 13th November 2017.
