KCCA coach Mike Mutebi has said that awards should always go to the deserving and not determined by emotions.
Mutebi believes it was very wrong for the award to go to Muzamir Mutyaba rather than Geoffrey Sserunkuma.
“It was absolutely wrong and I did not agree with the decision,” Mutebi told Daily Monitor.
They should have borrowed a leaf from our KCCA and Uganda Premier League awards. Put the emotions aside because Sserunkuma’s achievements are backed by statistics.
Sserunkuma, who featured for the Kasasiro in the double winning campaign scored a total 32 goals and provided a number of assists while Mutyaba netted six and contributed eight assists in the premier league.
Mutebi cited the example of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
We awarded him (Sserunkuma) everything at KCCA because he deserved it. But giving out awards basing on emotions makes these players lazy. Both players played for KCCA so I have no bias. If Messi and Ronaldo are the best players then let them be awarded forever.
The Voting System
Unlike in the globally recognised awards, FUFA opts for fans to pick their best player after nominations at the expense of technical people.
Surprisingly, the committee never releases the data of how people voted.
