Museveni expresses wish for Uganda to win the World Cup


H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has revealed his desire for Uganda Cranes to claim the World Cup trophy after touching it for the second time as head of state.

The trophy is currently on tour through Africa and it arrived on Monday at Entebbe Airport before heading to the State House in Entebbe.

Museveni welcomed the trophy whilst revealing his desires for the national football team.

In his speech at Entebbe State House, President Museveni noted;

This is a rare opportunity for Uganda, this visit is also symbolic in that it shows FIFA’s confidence in Uganda by recognizing our competitive abilities.

It will also draw attention to our country and boost tourism.

We hope to win this trophy one time and retain it.

This might take a few years considering that other national teams have better facilities however, Uganda with raw talent almost qualified but narrowly lost heading to Russia

Today there will be a public viewing by all Ugandans at the Lugogo Cricket oval.

From here, the trophy will head to Abuja and Lagos in Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast before Egypt, and Italy in Naples.
