Mukwala hands Uganda narrow advantage against Cameroon | CAF U-20 Qualifiers

Uganda National U-20 team (Hippos) will take to Cameroon with a narrow advantage after they claimed a 1-0 win at home in the CAF U-20 first round qualifiers.

The first leg played at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday ended in favour of Uganda with Steven Mukwala scoring the lone strike of the evening after 44 minutes.

Steven Mukwala was first was denied by the Cameroon goalkeeper Christopher Assimba Atangana when he was released by Robert Kitabalwa.

Defender Geofrey Wasswa laso missed giving Uganda the lead after 13 minutes when he powerfully headed out Julius Poloto’s curled corner kick.

Cameroon’s also came close in the 21st minute when Ignatius Kpene Ganago’s free-kick from 25 yards flew over the bar.

Julius Poloto also beat three defenders on the left but his delivery into the area is headed away for safety.

Mukwala, a Vipers sports club forward eventually gave Uganda the lead after 44 minutes when he controlled a long throw in from Kitabalwa on the left wing.

Cameroon called for the first change of the day on 52 minutes when Martin Ako paved way for Landry Abessolo.

Mukwala again missed a goalkeeper to beat incident deep inside added time. The return leg will be played on 18th May 2018.
