After finishing second in group D behind Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal may have to contend with a slot in the quarter finals with one of Europe’s top guns.

The Gunners collected 13 points from 6 group fixtures — same as Dortmund but found themselves behind the Germans due to an inferior goal difference after both sides tied on Head to Head.

The 2006 finalists can only avoid compatriots Chelsea and Dortmund among the toppers with the draw likely to offer them among others 2013/14 losing finalists Atletico Madrid, defending champions Real Madrid, German giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona from Spain.

Other possible opponents for Arsene Wenger’s side are Monaco and Porto from France and Portugal respectively. The draw will be made on Monday December 15.
