Uganda Cup Quarter Finals: Bright Stars 1-2 BUL

Despite the mild crowd trouble that marred the Uganda Cup quarter final fixture between Bright Stars and Jinja side, Bul football club,  the latter side have advanced to the semi finals of the knock out cup winning 1-2 on Monday at Mwererwe in Matugga.

The home side took the lead through a Hassan Kikoyo penalty, awarded after Anthony Bongole had been brought down in the forbidden area by George William Kayondo in the 70th minute.

Bright Stars’ captain, Benard Muwanga pulled Bul lead striker and skipper, Patrick Asiku in the area.

Hood Mayanja, a former Soana player converted to make amends.

Second half substitute Milton Kalisa scored the winner moments later, lobbing the ball over advancing goal keeper Mathias Kigonya.

Moments after Kalisa’s goal, referee William Oloya, who had already awarded two penalties pointed to the spot for the third time on the evening – with the hosts in line to make amends.

Benard Muwanga, missed the penalty, denying his side atleast a chance to force extra time and win the game.

Shortly before the end of the match, the fans believed to be for the home side attacked the Bul fans and a mild fight occurred.

For fear of the fight spreading and disrupting the match, the center referee abruptly brought the match to a sudden halt with 2 minutes of added time to play.

Security then had to quickly intervene by firing in the air tear gas canisters and live bullets into air to disperse the rowdy characters and ensure the match officials and traveling fans move out safely.

This is the first time that Bul F.C qualifies for the Uganda Cup semi finals.

They join Lweza who beat Police 1-0 at Kajjansi Uganda Clays play ground.
