The two Uganda Cranes goalkeepers for the 2016 Eastern regional tour, James Alitho and Ismail Watenga are excited by the opportunity to return home – in Mbale.
Both goalkeepers, who are at newly crowned Uganda Cup winners, Vipers were born and raised in Mbale.
After playing for the Eastern region team during the FUFA inter-regions tournament, they were tapped by St. Mary’s Kitende before signing for Vipers in the premier league.
Alitho tell Airtel Uganda Football that returning home with the national team is a very big life time opportunity.
Mbale is my home and I love the place. The fans will be happy to me and Isma (Watenga) in goal. We shall not disappoint because we need a win for the Uganda Cranes
Kibo Media group is organizing the regional tour on behalf of Airtel Uganda and Nile Breweries Limited, two companies that sponsor the tour.
The team travels to Mbale on Friday morning and will be expected to conduct their last training session at the Mbale Municipal stadium later in the evening.
Uganda Cranes has previously conducted regional tours in the Western, North East, Northern, Kitara and West Nile regions.
In the five games played, the national team has lost in one to the West Nile region at the Green Light Stadium.
Ceasar Olega scored the winning goal for the West Nile in the Cranes’ only defeat.
The regional tours are meant to further sell the Uganda Cranes brand to the up country.
Telecommunication giants Airtel Uganda Limited and Nile Breweries limited jointly sponsor the Uganda Cranes’ regional tours.
