Soana Football Club coach, Charles Ayeikho has said Mike Ray Mutebi deserves to win the coach of the year award ahead of self and Moses Basena who helped The Saints survive relegation last season.
Mutebi who joined KCCA last season won the league and also finished at the last four of the Uganda Cup.
“He is the outright winner for me,” Ayeikho said. “People say he had a good team but we have seen coaches fail to deliver even with best players in their squads. He brought something different to the club and was an inspirational figure and a disciplinarian,” he added.
Ayeikho is one of the three finalists in this year’s coach of the year award and he doesn’t think he will win the award.
He said; “Let’s be honest here, much as we scored the most goals last season, we were not the best team. It will be a miracle if I win it.”
Ayeikho also tips Joseph Ochaya to win the MVP award.
“He had a rare and a fantastic season. The passion he puts in the game is just unbelievable. Ssekisambu did well, Ssentongo was the top scorer but for me Ochaya edges them,” Ayeikho said of Ochaya who departed for greener pastures.
Ochaya was nominated alongside Erisa Ssekisambu and Robert Ssentongo who scored 16 and 18 goals respectively.
The fullback scored seven goals, topping the charts at his club.
