Crowd pullers Ssingo and Gomba face off in the 2017 Airtel Masaza cup final this Saturday 26th August at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

For starters, Gomba qualified for the final after defeating the defending champions Buddu in a thrilling and dramatic semi-final game that ended in penalty shootouts at a fully packed Masaka Recreational Grounds.

Three time winners Gomba (champions in 2004, 2009 and 2014) won 1-0 on the day taking the aggregate scoreline to 1 all. In the tense shoot out, Gomba triumphed 4-3.

Singo who have won the exciting tourney once in 2015 defeated opponents Busiro 1-0 in the first leg and registered a 1 – 1 tie in the second leg, automatically pushing them into the finals following a 2-1 aggregate score.

Battle for top scorers’ boot:

Two joint tournament top scorers Joseph Jjanjali of Gomba and Steven Mukwala from Singo both have scored 8 goals apiece.

It will be a great battle to witness the two players fight for the top scorers’ gong.

Other key players:

Ssingo under Shafik Bisaso and Felix Ssekabuuza as coaches will once again dwell upon captain Dube Ssebuwufu, Jude Ssemugabi, Yusuf Saaka, Brian ‘Benteke’ Lubega and the fast paced Steven Mukwala.
