Masavu Football Club head coach Alex Gitta says he would sack club CEO Muzafaru Ssebagala if he had the powers.

The former Express coach revealed this after his side had no licenses on the Uganda Premier League opening day when they hosted Police FC at Fisheries Ground, Bugonga which prompted the match to be called off.

On recommendation from League CEO, Bernard Bainamani, match referees led by William Oloya refused to officiate the game unless the home team produced players’ licenses which they didn’t have.

“If I had the powers, I would sack the club CEO immediately,” Gitta said. “He gave me an assurance on Monday evening that the game would be played because that would mean everything is sorted,” he added.

Both sets of players arrived in time for the game but at the time of inspection, the hosts had no licenses.

Match Commissioner Idrissa Kiwanuka advised that Masavu can play under protest but when he sought advice from Bainamani and FUFA Competitions Committee director Ali Mwebe, they advised that the game can only be treated as a friendly.

With Masavu to lose the game by forfeiture, Gitta couldn’t be more disappointed.

“Imagine the situation we have been put under. It means we have to pick at least four points from our next two games. The target is to survive relegation and if we forfeit a home match, then it would be bad.”
