Mucureezi strike sends KCCA to Champions League pre-group round

KCCA FC edged Madagascar side CNaPS Sport 1-0 in the return leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round played at the StarTimes Stadium on Wednesday.

Paul Mucureezi scored the all important goal 64th minute of the game watched by a convincing crowd. The attacking midfielder was well positioned to nod home Mustapha Kizza’s corner past goalkeeper Andonianina Fanomezantsoa Andrimalala.

It was an end to end game with a number opportunities created by either side.

CNaPS left back Ronald Rajaonarivelo kept out a goal bound header from defender Fillbert Obenchan while the visitors’ danger-man Francis Rafaralahy was denied by goalkeeper Charles Lukwago in a one-on-one incident.

Allan Okello had two offorts from distance fly narrowly wide of goal as the first half ended goalles.

After recess KCCA manager Mike Mutebi introduced striker Muhammad Shaban for Denis Okot Oola while in CNaPS’ first change of the game saw Niasexe pave way for Emilison Patrick Tolojanahary.

It was not long before Mucureezi’s goal arrived in form of a header off a corner from Mustapha Kizza who later limped out for Paul Musamali.

The visitors were also forced with a substitution when Haja Mirija Fortunat Rasoanaivoarison limped out for Micheal Rabeosn Fetraniana.

Tojo Nantenaina Ramanitrandrasana Miandrisoa made way for Jean Eric Andriamangason whose would be equalizer was cancelled for offside by Somalia FIFA Referee Hassan Mohamed Hagi.

KCCA goalkeeper Lukwago came to KCCA’s rescue again when he saved a well drilled header from Lantoniaina Andriamanalina.

Lukwago was cautioned in added minutes for time wasting but KCCA held on to for the slim victory that guaranteed them of progress to the first round where they will face St George.
