The European giants agreed to play the exhibition game at FNB Stadium on May 16 aimed at celebrating what would have been the iconic Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday.
According to a statement released on the club’s official website, the fixture organised by the South African Football Association (SAFA) together with LaLiga World Challenge will kick off at 18:15 local time.
FC Barcelona will be playing its part in the events to commemorate what would have been Nelson Mandela’s one hundredth birthday as they travel to South Africa for a friendly game on May 16 against ABSA Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
It will be Barcelona’s second visit to South Africa and their last visit was in 2007 for a friendly in Pretoria, also against the Mamelodi Sundowns. The Catalans won that game 2-1 thanks to goals from Santi Ezquerro and Marc Crosas.
