Buganda Region reached the 2018 Airtel Rising Stars national boys finals after defeating the Northern Region 4-2 on penalties.
In a game played at St. Mary’s Seminary, Virika playground in Fort Portal, Buganda enjoyed the lions share of possession in the first half but could not find the break through.
Northern Region was solid at the back and played a physical game that left Buganda head coach William Kyeswa furious at the center referee.
After the break, Nothern Region took a surprise lead but it did not last as the sides settled for a draw in normal time for the game to be decided in penalties.
Peter Okot (Northen Region) went fast and his kick was saved by Huzaima Lukwago, and Julius Kintu converted his kick to give Buganda the advantage.
Isaac Obedi sent Lukwago the wrong way, while Mohammed Nsereko restored Buganda’s advantage.
Brian Awale smashed the crossbar as Isa Bugembe extended the lead.
Julius Oweka scored the Northern Region’s fourth kick, but Travis Mutyaba sent Buganda into the finals having converted their fourth kick.
In the finals, Buganda will take on Kampala Region who defeated Western Region (also in penalties 7-6) on Sunday at Buhinga playground in a match that will be graced by the King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru.
Meanwhile, the girls finals will see Western lock horns with Kitara. Western knocked out Kampala 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time while Kitara knocked out Eastern Region 5-4 still on penalties.
