Two wins. One draw. Group Leaders and a Semifinal spot secured. The Crested Crested Cranes’ performances at the on-going COSAFA women Championships has been as good as sensational, to put it mildly.
The Ugandan women saw-off favourites Zimbabwe on Monday and topped group C in same process , securing a mouthwatering date with hosts and pre-tournament favourites South Africa.
In a game where Crested Cranes’ progression hopes were firmly rested, the pair of Juliet Nalukenge alongside Tracy Jones Akiror produced the goods to pick a much needed 2-1 win over Zimbabwe.
Head coach Faridah Bulega whose tactical and managerial acumen have been credited for Uganda’s heroics was full of praise to her charges.
She said, “We are very happy for having won this game, and topped the table with 7 points. We have managed to achieve one of our ambitions by qualifying for the Semi finals.
“We are now going to engage with the best teams that are going to Afcon finals, we learn from them and polish ourselves when we return. The team is so happy for having won against Zimbabwe.”
She added, “I thank all your Ugandans for their support and prayers. Most especially Ugandans based in South Africa.”
The Crested Cranes have been the first team to book the Semi final slot in the 2018 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
The guest nation will return to action on Thursday 20th September against the hosts Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
