UCU Lady Cardinals were crowned 2018 Uganda Women Football Association Independence Champions after overcoming Kawempe Muslim 5-4 on on penalties at Kazo playgrounds on Tuesday.
The two FUFA Women Elite League heavy weights matched pound for pound in an entertaining affair that ended goalless and required post match shootouts to decide the winner of the tournament.
UCU’s Custodian Ruth Aturo managed to save Kawempe Skipper’s Mariam Nakabugo’s penalty as the latter was unbeatable in goal the entire evening to jolt her side to victory.
The tournament, held in commemoration of Uganda’s independence, attracted six FUFA women Elite sides and was played on the round robin format.
Kawempe led with 13 points while UCU Lady Cardinals came second to set up the closing final.
In the Primary category, goals from Nanyonjo Jarida, Tamale Hanisha and Nagadya Novena were enough to inspire Jolly Primary School to a 3-0 victory over Bembe Hill Primary School.
Nakato Rebecca made remarks as her all important goal was enough to inspire Kawempe Muslim to a 1-0 win over Pride College Mpigi in the Secondary schools Final.
