Bright Stars vs Express FC
Date: Tuesday 13th November 2018
Venue: Champions Stadium, Mwererwe
Kick off: 4:30pm
The mini-resurgence or lack of it by Express FC will fall under the microscope when they travel to Mwererwe to take on the free scoring Bright Stars in the Uganda Premier League.
Since falling to Mbarara City on match day two, The Red Eagles have managed to amass three wins while a one-all draw against Vipers SC last week was yet precursor of how Kefa Kisala has fine-tuned his side into a formidable team.
Not overly a star-studded squad, but rather a blend of a few experienced stalwarts and novices, Kisala has got the Red Eagles firing on all cylinders.
Memories of last season’s relegation struggles are fading fast among the Red Army faithfuls.
Yet, the Red Eagles without pivotal striker Tony Odur – suspended due to accumulated yellow cards – take on arguably this season’s surprise package in Bright Stars FC whose hype has rested on scoring goals for fun.
The Fred Kajjoba coached side currently sit 3rd on the log and rank as the highest scoring team in the league with 13 goals, 7 of those have come in their last two games.
Fred Kajoba’s men walked to a commanding 3-0 win over new league entrants Ndejje University away in Luwero in their most recent fixture while controversial refereeing ensured Express FC drew one-all at home with Vipers SC at Wankulukuku.
Stylish Skipper Nelson Senkatuka, who has scored 5 goals so far this season, will lead Bright Stars’s search for goals while Mahad Kiseka and Kokas Opejo will come in handy as they plot to shoot down the soaring Red Eagles at their fortress Champion stadium.
Midfielder Juma Sebadduka, one of the scorers in Bright Star’s rout to Ndejje, will be to be facing his former employers following the end of his one and half year ineffectual stint at Wankulukuku.
Ibrahim Kayiwa, Eric Kambale, adroit midfielder Badiru Nsubuga and Michael Birungi will lead the Red Eagle’s firing line in the absence of suspended Odur.
With novice custodian Tony Kyamera not available because of school commitments and first goal keeper Mathis Muwanga away for national duty with U-23 Kobs team, Kisala is faced with a selection headache of who will start in goal.
Bright Stars edged the six-time league champions 2-1 at Mwererwe but played to a goalless draw in the corresponding fixture at Wankulukuku.
From the previous ten meetings, Express FC has managed to win on three occasions while Bright Stars have won twice. The rest of the five games have ended in stalemates.
A win for either side can lift them to the peak of the table. Express is 6th on the table with 12 points, 3 points shy of table toppers KCCA and Vipers.
