Julius Poloto in action for Uganda Kobs

As the Kobs were in line to settle for a frustrating goalless draw at their own back yard, Goal Keeper Ramadan John Mayik was penalized by Egyptian referee Ahmed El Ghandour for a shove on striker Steven Mukwala in the last kicks of the game.

KCCA FC left wing back Mustapha Kizza then converted the resultant penalty to give Wasswa Bbosa’s boys a slim one goal cushion a head of the return leg on Tuesday next week in Juba.

The hosts saw much of the ball in the opening stages with Kirinya-Jinja S.S striker Joel Madondo a menace with his astute runs behind the South Sudanese defense.

The trident of Julius Poloto, Allan Okello and Shafic Kagimu were at the heart of everything good the Kobs had but the visitors’ cautious style of play proved insurmountable.

South Sudan’s first noticeable chance came 33 minutes when
Mbarara City towering striker Makeuth Wol Akeen Nguet had a weak shoot from 30 yards easily collected by Proline goalkeeper Saidi Keni.

Attacker Joseph Junior Ssemujju came on for defender Musitafa Mujjuzi inside 10 minutes into the second half. Wasswa Bbosa and his technical bench wanted more bodies upfront as the search for a break through intensified.

Samuel Lukudu Edward paved way for Peter Antony Okech for the visitors side.

Ezekiel Duncan Sseninde replaced the weary legs of Madondo after 65 minutes as the need for fresh legs upfront became palpable.

Wol could have scored for the visitors but his angled shot was saved by Kobs goalie Keni.

Kobs continued to press for a break through till in stoppage time when a watershed moment came to Uganda’s rescue

Mukwala, who turns out for Vipers SC was caught by approaching goalie John Mayik in the forbidden area for the decisive penalty.

Okello held the ball before Kizza took over to convert from 12 yards.
Uganda Kobs took the early advantage ahead of Tuesday’s return leg at the Juba Stadium.

The winner on aggregate will face Tunisia at the next stage of the qualifiers.
