Vipers SC Vs. El Merriekh | St.Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
Vipers SC coach Martinez Espinoza is confident Uganda’s CAF champions League flag bearers have the impetus to overcome El Merriekh when the two sides meet on Wednesday.
The Venoms renew rivalry with the Sudanese giants in the return leg of the Caf Champions league preliminary qualifiers at St.Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
El Merriekh beat the Ugandan side 2-1 in Khartoum with Daniel Sserunkuma’s late goal giving the visitors a life-line in the two legged encounter.
It is that solitary away goal that breeds confidence in Espinoza that his side will do enough to progress.
“The goal we got here in Khartoum is very important to us because we only need to win at St. Mary’s stadium and make sure we do not concede for us to advance,” Mexican told the club website before adding, “I believe we have the potential to win at home and advance to the next stage.”
The reigning league champions need just a 1-0 victory to progress.
Vipers will welcome back striker Davis Kasirye to the fold who has been nursing injury for some time.
The Sudanesse arrived in wee hours of Sunday morning and are residing at Pearl of Africa hotel in Nakasero, Kampala.
Vipers SC are also biding to join in KCCA FC in the coveted status as the other Ugandan club to qualify to the lucrative group stages of Caf champions league of the revised format.
If Vipers build on their one goal advantage and navigate past El Merriekh, the Venoms will then qualify to the final round (first round) to take on either CS Constantine from Algeria or Gambian Gamtel FC.
