Ibrahim Kirya looks on as his side trained at Kabojja

Despite being ejected out of the Uganda Cup on the hands of Kyetume FC, Wakiso Giants coach Ibrahim Kirya reserved kind words for his side.

The Purple Sharks fell 4-1 in a penalty shootout following 120 goalless minutes at Nakisunga Ssaza Ground on Sunday.

“It was a good fight from the boys,” said Kirya. “We were unfortunate in normal time and extra time and penalties are a lottery,” he added.

If we were told to bow at the quarterfinals before start of the competition, we would take it so we have to move on” The former SC Villa FC coach said.

Focus shifts to Top tier promotion

Kirya adds that his side will shift focus to the FUFA Big league where they are faring well and are odds on favourites to directly qualify to the Uganda Premier League from the Elgon group.

The Purple Sharks, who are unbeaten at the moment boast 32 points at the summit of the Elgon group, six shy of second placed Kyetume FC.

“The focus now turns to our primary goal which is promotion to the top tier division. We have six finals and we have to move on and stay focused.”

Ironically, Wakiso Giants host Kyetume in the next league match at Bugembe on March 21.
