Brian Umony scored the lone goal as Express FC put up a solid performance to eject BUL FC 1-0 out of this year’s Uganda Cup at the quarter final stage.
Umony scored the all important goal inside the opening five minutes when he tapped from close range a Frank “Zaga” Tumwesigye well laid pass as the Red Eagles stormed the semifinals.
It was Umony’s second goal since joining the Wakulukuku based side in the mid season transfer window.
He could have doubled the lead in the 21st minutes following a run of play but his snap shot inside the area could not beat goalie Hannigton Ssebwalunyo.
The visitors threatened through Douglas Owori and Jean Pierre Kambale but neither neither could find the equalizer.
Express led 1-0 at half time, and eventually the contest followed the same pattern in the second half.
BUL huffed and puffed for a leveler with Kambale coming agonizingly close through two long range free kicks but the home side stood firm to go through.
With George Ssimwogerere’s side enduring a below-par league season, a deep run in the Uganda Cup remains the side’s only hope of sliver ware as they also chase a record 11th Cup title.
Jinja based BUL becomes the latest high profile victim to fall to Red Eagles in this year’s Uganda Cup having eliminated Police FC at the round of 32.
Express FC joins Kyetume FC and Bright Stars as the other sides to progress to the semifinals.
