Former Asante Kotoko SC coach Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabin has been appointed the new head coach of Uganda Cubs, the national U17 side.
The former Ghana U17 coach has signed a one year renewable deal to fill the void left by Peter Onen.
The former takes over from caretaker coaches Jackson Magero and Hamuza Lutalo. The pair coached the Uganda Cubs at the UEFA Assist U-17 invitational tournament in Turkey at the beginning of this month.
Fabin was unveiled on Wednesday at the FUFA House in Mengo during a press conference presided over by FUFA President Moses Magogo.
“I therefore take this moment to announce Fabin Kwesi Samuel as the new head coach of the U17 national team. He has experience with such teams having coached the Ghana U17 national team. We therefore welcome you to Uganda,” Mr. Magogo said.
“We have had the position of the U17 National team head coach vacant and as FUFA, we looked for someone who has experience with the young players, a person who has contacts. Currently the market in Europe looks at young players.”
The 60-year old will be guiding the Uganda team at the U17 AFCON which kicks-off in Tanzania in April.
The experienced Ghanaian gaffer said; “Its my pleasure to be here in Uganda, am here on a mission to guide the young ones in their endeavors.
“The time is very short but I will give it the best of my short, they need a lot of patience but I will need maximum cooperation of everyone,” he noted.
Fabin has had stints with Heart of Lions, Inter Allies FC, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko SC in his career.
He led Ghana to the final of the U17 AFCON in Gabon in 2017 and also guided the team to the FIFA U17 World Cup in India in 2017.
Fabin will also double as U-20 National Team Coach.
