Tanzania Taifa Stars overcame Uganda Cranes with 3-0 score to qualify for the 2019 AFCON for the first time in 39 years.
Tanzania had last qualified in 1980 AFCON, a tourney that was hosted by Nigeria who beat Algeria in the final 3−0.
Tanzania went ahead thanks to Saimon Happygod Msuva who found the back of the net from edge of the box in the 21st minute.
Msuva beat Onyango at the far post with a strong shot that sailed below his stretched arm for the opener.
Moments after restart, Ntambi Krizestom handled in the area as Mbwana Samata lofted a cross from the left area of the box into the area.
Tanzania’s Edward Earsto Nyoni sent Onyango the wrong way from the spot kick in the 50th minute, to hand the neighbours their second of the day.
Aggrey Morris sealed his country’s qualification with a header that flew past Onyango in the 62nd minute.
The result depended on Cape Verde’s match with Lesotho that ended in a goalless draw, meaning Tanzania and Uganda make the AFCON 2019 finals from Group L.
