Uganda Cranes teams prepares for CECAFA

Uganda Cranes began preparations for the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup on Wednesday with a training session at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

Of the 30 players summoned initially, only 18 took part in the first training session under the guidance of head coach John McKinstry. KCCA FC and Proline FC players who are still engaged in league action have been excused from training.

These include Bright Anukani and Musitafa Mujjuzi (both from Proline FC) and Allan Okello, Musitafa Kizza, Nicholas Kasozi, Charles Lukwago, Muzamiru Mutyaba, Samuel Kato and John Revita.

Vipers SC midfielder Abdul Karim Watambala and Kirizestom Ntambi of Wakiso Giants FC also did not take part in Wednesday’s session.

Watambala is still engaged with senior six examinations at St. Mary’s Kitende.

Wednesday’s session mainly put focus on ball possession and transition and McKinstry indicated this is an area he wants to see the team improve.

It has been a wonderful session with the players and I think our preparations have begun on a good note. Today’s session was centered around ball possession and how we make the transition from the back.

The team will carry on with non –residential training on Thursday and Friday before they enter residential camp on Saturday.

Hosts Uganda are in group A alongside Burundi, Ethiopia and Eritrea. The tournament is slated to take place between 7th-19th December.
