2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Uganda 2-0 Ethiopia

Uganda took an upper hand in their 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers following their spirited victory against Ethiopia on Saturday afternoon in Lugogo.

A goal apiece from skipper Juliet Nalukenge and Catherine Nagadya ensured Uganda secured a 2-0 win to take advantage in the preliminary tie.

The home side had a brilliant start with Nalukenge, Fauzia Najjemba and Margaret Kunihira wreaking havoc up front.

Nalukenge fired Uganda into an early lead when Najjemba headed her into space before firing into the bottom side in the 4th minute.

There were a couple of chances for Uganda to double the lead but failed to put the chances away.

In the second stanza, Ethiopia improved a lot and had half chances but were not clinical enough.

Nagadya who replaced Hadijja Nandago headed home the second goal for Uganda after donkey work by Najjemba to register her second assistant on the day.

The two teams will face off in the return leg in two weeks’ time and the winner on aggregate will face either Tanzania or Burundi at the next stage.
