Vipers Sports Club needed to come from a goal down to overcome Proline FC on Tuesday in Lugogo.
With KCCA FC losing 2-1 to Bright Stars FC in Kavumba, Vipers SC seized the chance to open a seven-point gap following their 4-1 win.
Hamis Diego Kizza netted against his former employees just eight minutes after kick-off but Vipers SC responded immediately to win comfortably.
Dennis Mwemezi leveled matters three minutes after Kizza had scored and this helped Vipers SC to make a quick recovery.
In the 13th minute, Bayo fired Vipers SC in the lead capitalizing on a rebound after Paul Mucureezi’s effort had initially been saved.
Mwemezi stretched the lead for the Venoms, six minutes later when he curled into the bottom left corner for Vipers SC to get a comfortable lead going into the break.
Despite losing Siraje Ssentamu and Halid Lwaliwa through injuries in the first half, the Venoms remained the better side and Bayo converted from the spot midway through the second stanza when Mwemezi was brought down in the area.
Hakim Kiwanuka scored another goal for Proline FC but it was too late for the home side to stage a comeback.
Vipers SC is top of the table on 42 points while Proline FC remains bottom of the log on 12 points.
