Uganda Cup| Round of 32

Express FC 3(3)- 3(4)Maroons FC

Uganda Cup joint recorders Express FC had their journey in the 2020 edition come to an agonising, after getting eliminated by Maroons FC at the round of 32 on Wednesday.

The Red Eagles who have 10 Uganda Cup titles just like KCCA FC crushed out at the hands of the Prison Warders after a thrilling encounter played at Kavumba Recreation Centre.

Normal time had ended in a three-all draw but Maroons FC won the tense penalty shootout 4-3 to book a berth in the round of 16.

Frank Kalanda opened the scores as early as the 5th minute but the lead for Express FC was shortlved when their former player David Ndihabwe restored parity.

The visitors took the lead before the break through defender Maxwell Okello but Express FC levelled matters just after the break through returnee Eric Kambale.

Maroons FC seemed determined and once again regained their lead through Steven Mukwala midway through the second half.

However, Express FC was awarded a late penalty that was converted by skipper Disan Galiwango to force the game into a shootout.

Galiwango turned from hero to villain missing from the spot just like debutant Baker Lukooya.

Frank Ssenyondo, Muhammad Yiga and Daniel Shabena converted their kicks from the spot.

Despite Patrick Bayiga missing for Maroons, Mukwala, Abraham Tusubira, Ndihabwe and Edgar Bwogi were perfect to send the Prison Warders to the next stage.
